Small block 400 extrnal balanced, torque monsters. The bad is that you have to keep cool. They have steam ports in head and very thin between bore and water jackets.

in 1972, GM called the 396/402 a "400" and used 400 badges, no such animal as the 400 SBC in 1972....

Yep they where 1972 was a 4 bolt main. Production: 1970–1981

i dont think they were available in trucks...
either way, GM used 400 badges for the 402, so i was asking if it had a 396/402.

Thanks for the compliments. Unfortunately the 72 just has a new crate 350 in it now. The badges need changed I guess..haha My dad wasn't looking for anything to go fast, just a cruiser.
The door had rust on the bottom so it is in the middle of getting repaired.
Got the 4.56 gears installed in the rear, and the will soon be installed in the front when I get around to it.
