NV4500 ID? early 6:34 external gear

Ok, so from what I have seen the 92-96 NV4500 is identifiable from the 97-2007 by two physical external characteristics, the 92-96 has a crossweb above the drivers side PTO plate, and a thicker/wider reverse bulge. So, how does one tell the difference between an early 6:34 geared transmission and a 5:61 geared transmission? (Please post pics or very clear description.)

Guaranteed you can at least tell 92-94 from 96-up because 96-up is the integrated slave cylinder/release bearing design. This has a whole different bellhousing with the square access hole in the side for the slave cylinder bleeder, and hose attachment. If removed from truck already and bellhousing, slave cylinder removed, you can tell the difference because 96-up has the much larger aluminum front bearing retainer with the 2 holes in it for mounting said slave cylinder/release bearing.

Here's some pics.. not sure if I agree with what they're claiming. Worth noting you can 100% ignore the difference in my pics re: tailshaft housings because the 1994 pictured is from a 3500HD so it has the extended tailshaft housing with drum parking brake attachment; the 1996 has the regular C3500 short tailshaft housing with the damper/yoke thingy.

I'm unsure on how 1995 models fit into this but these are very obvious differences between a 1994 and 1996 model. I have a very vague recollection that 1995 is an oddball mix of the aforementioned features but it's gonna take someone with better memory or direct experience to say so.

The 6.34 1st gear is actually only 92-94. Easiest way to tell is that the shift tower is integral to the cover on the early model one; to get the shifter out you just push and twist the cap like an SM465. The later ones (95-up) have a bolt on shift tower that looks very different. The trans to bellhousing patterns are also different (but I think 95 retains the earlier bellhousing pattern). Here is the pic I have of the early one with the integral shift tower (sorry about the chain, I took this when moving it around)

Yours being a 1992 and mine being a 1994, I'm wondering if that's the difference they were looking for with the Feb 1994 build date OP mentioned in his PTO thread?

They might have switched over sometime during 94. Here is a better pic of the 92 NV4500 that I just installed in place of a 4 speed (notice the annoyingly large hole they put in the floor that I had to cover up):

The 95 has later gears (5.61), but the early small register case that takes the passenger slave cylinder.

I wish my trucks had that large hole, makes me determined to check next time I work on anything to do with the NV4500, working the trans up with only the shifter hole is a PITA.

I think only early model trucks with the SM465 use that hole. There is a plate spot welded on top of it to make room for the shift tower since it’s so tall. It wouldn’t work with the new trans so I had to modify it. Did make it easier to put in though!

I understand the difference between the 94 and 96 (the integrated slave cylinder/release bearing design), what I am looking for is a 100% way to identify a 6.34 1st gear case. It may be the the 92-94 6.34 1st gear case has a crossweb above the drivers side PTO plate, as shown in this pic. Opinions? (SOMEOTHERGUY'S 94 6.34 doesnt show the webbing and neither does the NV4500 in my 92. Im not trying to be anel retentive about it, just want a 100% way to identify a 6.34 other than year. because stuff gets swapped out.)
