Has anybody ever seen one like this? I've owned dozens of these trucks, but never one set up like this!

I just picked this truck up a couple of weeks ago for $1200. I didn't think much of it at the time of purchase as it ran (sort of), drove, has working 4x4, and the body was pretty straight, so I didn't really care about options. Bought it mostly sight unseen except for a brief test drive at night.

Now that I've tinkered on the truck for a bit now, I've noticed some interesting things that I've never seen on GMT400's before, even on true W/T models. Namely just how "base model" this truck actually is! I thought it would be neat to document it on here just because of the uniqueness of it.

The truck is a 1989 Chevrolet Cheyenne K2500 4x4 with the L05 5.7L and TH400 transmission. 114,000 miles. There is NO emissions equipment except for the EGR valve, which is EVRV operated. This is the HD model with 8600LB GVWR, and no tow hitch has ever been installed. From the RPO codes, this was a government fleet truck but was a special order (it's a COPO, technically!) to be optioned out this way.

Custom pinstriping work has been done. I don't believe this is from the factory. There is also evidence of a bed topper being installed at one point.

The interior is just as bare. Vinyl seat appears to have been replaced at some point as it is now green instead of gray, but still retains the vinyl as called out in the RPO's.

Heat and Vent controls with Floor and Defrost option only, NO dash vent:

Dash vent blanked on driver side:

Center dash vents have an aftermarket radio piece installed so the cover is currently missing, but as shown there is no ducting:

Passenger dash vent blanked out also:

Driver's side exhaust manifold with no casting hole for an O2 sensor. It is located after the merge in the Y-pipe, near the transmission.

Wow, I was wondering if it was a Government model when I was reading down...it it is.

The government must have spec'ed them like that to keep cost down.

Strangely, I've seen similar and later government vehicles 4x4 without the G80 rear locker. Maybe they thought it was not needed? Maybe cost-cutting measure. Seems strange to me on a 4x4 though.

That interior looks nuts though, lol. You almost just got got a drivetrain, steering wheel and a seat!

Are you going to convert it to a civilian truck?! Lol

At least you got the option for tinted windows!

I'm going to keep it as-is, actually! In fact, I'm going to junkyard hunt a stock radio and even attempt to find the center bezel without the dash vents, if possible. I'd like to find a correct color vinyl seat to really complete it. The interior is in pretty good shape, it just needs some cleaning. I may add a factory cup holder, but I don't want to go too crazy, lol.

My answer to your question is this one. It wins!
A painless internet transaction of $5 and it'll tell you how many trucks were optioned like yours for that year.

Where's that at, from GM?

That’s awesome. Seems like something the government or public utility would have ordered knowing it would need to work but not really travel much outside of a facility (military base/airport/power plant)

Maybe a carfax would help glean a bit more about its provenance.

Looks pretty cool to me, I always liked the 2500 4x4 w/factory fender flare look. Nice find

I'm sorry! I'm a half asleep half wit!
compnine.com is the site. $5 lets you enter 5 VINs to decode, (which you've already decoded). The only neat thing is beside each rpo code it tells you how many trucks were produced that year with it. -And an overall "number of trucks that year were optioned like yours".
