I know the 8600+ GVWR engines were 4 bolt mains and had hardened exhaust valves and inserts. They had slightly different head castings but the blocks are the same otherwise as far as I know. Maybe somebody else can chime in, vans are weird sometimes.

As far as I know it's just 4 bolt main and the valves, as mentioned. Some places like Jegs have these listed and it says for "Heavy duty use only," or something to that extent.

I don't think the HP was any higher than the truck versions, so 255 or so?

They are work vans, so they typically don't get the "latest and greatest" engines, i.e., high HP. Rather, they get the high durability/reliability engines.

It's typical for manufacturer to "detune" engines in heavy duty applications for that reason.

Sounds logical, guess that’s the reason for the 906 heads instead of 062s. With a little port work and some valve lift/ duration with springs to match it may make a nice performer

It is just a numbers game. The vortec 350 is rated at 255 horsepower with all the accessories. It is rated at 330 horsepower without any of the accessories.
