So according to GM the engines used in these heavy duty vans are different than a 5.7 in a 1500 truck. GM says they are 300 to 330 horse with HP crank shafts, rods, timing set(true roller). Has anyone else heard of this

Sounds logical, guess that’s the reason for the 906 heads instead of 062s. With a little port work and some valve lift/ duration with springs to match it may make a nice performerAs far as I know it's just 4 bolt main and the valves, as mentioned. Some places like Jegs have these listed and it says for "Heavy duty use only," or something to that extent.
I don't think the HP was any higher than the truck versions, so 255 or so?
They are work vans, so they typically don't get the "latest and greatest" engines, i.e., high HP. Rather, they get the high durability/reliability engines.
It's typical for manufacturer to "detune" engines in heavy duty applications for that reason.
