Installing pickup tube in oil pump

You can set the depth to the bottom of the pan ( dont forget the gasket)
You need about 1/4 inch or better clear.
Tack weld it in place
Dont try to seam weld it.
Just keep it from falling off
And you will be good to go.

I saw a trick where someone taped a 3/8" drill bit to the pickup, put a little grease on it as a tell-tale, and put the pan in place (with gasket of course). That set the depth. Then they marked it, removed it from the block, and drove the pickup the rest of the way in.

Yep, I'll put a tack on it.
