I was having a deuce of a time getting the pickup pan (3/4") into the oil pump (Melling). I saw a YT video about this and one of the commenters mentioned using a split collar to facilitate installation. I'm not sure if anyone else has done this, I used an O2 sensor socket to help drive the pickup into the pump. It worked really well. I hope this helps someone. Pictures attached

That could work very well.

I bought the Melling "special tool" for the 3/4" pickup tubes. Expensive. But I wasn't smart enough to think of the split-collar and socket system.

I looked at that tool also, I couldn't swing the cost. I was just lucky both my active brain cells were firing when I tried the O2 sensor socket.

Your signature is, as my friend from the UK would say is "Spot On"!
