How far up the 4l60e year ladder can I swap in where a 1997 4l60e was

Here's my question. I have a 1997 z71 that I'm having trouble finding a same year model tranny for. I know 1996-99 will successfully go in and properly work where my 97 year tranny was..how far up will do the same? Will a 2000 year 4l60e go in and work ok electrically/mechanically or will I have to change something. I know a 2004 tranny the electrical changed some and that's work I don't want to get into. So 1996 to what year is interchangeable.
