Approximately 2 months ago I ordered a delphi hp10001 fuel pump on eBay($84) and installed it in the 97 k1500. Just the pump arrived in a plain white box with no packing materials. the lack of labeling on the pump was kind of suspect, but I installed it anyway. Went to fill up the other day and it quit.
did the routine tests figuring it was a relay/wiring/electrical issue. Nope, pump was toast.
Ordered a new delphi hp10001 from amazon($148). Arrived in a delphi box with all the fixins(o rings & retention ring). Looked to be of much higher quality. Filter sock was smaller & tighter, pump body frame was thicker and had sturdier mounting tabs, float pivot was reinforced, and it was labeled delphi hp10001 on the flange that sealed to the tank...once it was in she started up much better than before, AND the fuel gauge needle stopped bouncing as well(which it continued to do after installing the first fake delphi unit)...moral of the story, watch out for bootleg parts when ordering online, especially eBay.
...In hindsight I should have taken pics of the two pumps side by side to illustrate the differences. but since I was swapping them in a parking lot and was racing a thunderstorm I did not.
got the filler neck bolted up as the first drops fell.goodtimes
