Got the olds 88 moved out of the carport and cleaned up so I'd have room to swap engines on the burb. Now shes sitting in the carport where I can work on it in the dry and in the shade.
I unbolted and lowered the front differential, and unbolted the oil pan, but still dont have room for the pickup to clear the sump to get the pan off. I'll have to unbolt the engine from the mounts and raise it up to get the pan out so I can get the crank freed up to get the converter bolts out.

It's pretty nice. Plenty wide to get both doors fully open too. It's where my grandpa grew up at. Hoping to fix it up and live there before long if grandpa agrees with everything.
I could see that. Sun been beating me along with the mosquitoes lol. My next house I'm planning a bigger garage or carport

I was planning to get the engine pulled yesterday, but ran into issues with the allen head torque converter bolts. I think the shop that installed the transmission used red loctite on the threads. If I knew it at the time, I would have bought some arp 13mm hex head m10x1.5 bolts for it. I was able to get the engine picked up and got the oil pan and windage tray removed. Now the engine will turn over!

I managed to get the stubborn allen head bolts out of the torque converter. I ended up having to borrow a coworker's extractor set and drilled the bolt heads deeper and stepped it with a larger bit to get the tapered extractor to bite better. Now all that's left is the bellhousing bolts and I can yank the engine out!
I also scored a nice set of black and grey leather camaro ss seats from a 2011. Now i can sell my cloth seats and have some seats that will match my interior. I'll be swinging by the machine shop friday to drop off some small parts that came in for my engine and check on the status of it. Hopefully less than 2 months and I'll have it on the road again!

Engine is out! The rod that came through the oil galley caught part of my Dirty Dingo engine mount, but I flattened it back with a hammer.
I was able to get the lifters and camshaft out, but there is just minimal damage on 3 lobes. Depending on cost, I may have the machine shop see if they can polish/grind it out without affecting the cam profile too much. I was planning on selling it if it was in good shape.
I also put my interior back together with new camaro seats, a new multifunction switch, Dorman shifter boot, and a 2015-2019 Suburban leather shift lever. The lever is angled up higher than the 07-14 style one I had before, and matches the angle of the original 1999 shifter much better. In drive, the shifter is level like the original, and 1st doesn't hit my knee anymore.
