Looks like there is a bearing for the steering shaft at the firewall, or just inside the firewall within the steering column.

I have a 3" body lift with the extension piece that comes with the kit. It sits between the upper and intermediate shafts. While doing the front end rebuild I replaced the intermediate shaft and that's when I noticed how loose that extension was. It was loose causing lots of play while moving the steering wheel back and forth. I torqued down on the bolts pretty good when I installed the new intermediate shaft and that seems to have resolved the side to side movement. The vertical play is still there though.
