95 4L60E, can only be replaced by 95 4L60E?

Is it true that this is a one year only trans? No other trans will work in my truck without extensive mods?

That is correct. You can use a 94 if you swap in the harness and run the 95 valve body and torque converter. My 95 has a trans out of a 94 van. Luckly my buddy with a hoist knows how to make it work.

the 94-95 harness swap requires extensive splicing in the engine bay, OR you have to cut/weld in the firewall "through hole" on the drivers side for it to work. You're best off finding a 95 trans imo.

If the 95 has PWM stamped on the outer casting of the pump on the 95, it would be better to use a 96 model instead of 94. The PCM is programmed for PWM. 95 model the TCC PWM valve ohms out different than 96, swap it out and it will work. Best to use the DHHF converter, it has the carbon clutch... If it doesn't have PWM, use the 94 transmission.

GOOD info, I presume that PWM stands for pulse width modulation?

PWM does stand for Pulse Width Modulated but what is a DHHF Converter?

The DHHF is a carbon clutch converter. They mostly put a paper clutch converter in the 4L60E's from 93-95 then then when they swapped to PWM they made the carbon and graphite clutches which dissipates heat much better and is all around more durable. You can put a carbon clutch converter in a non-PWM unit, but you can't put a paper clutch converter in a PWM transmission.

Yes, awesome info. Looks like I need to start looking for a 95 so I have it when I need it.
