Hi folks.
I have a 97 K1500 with the 4l60e. I bought the truck 1.5 years ago. Trans is working flawlessly, but I have an issue with its transfer case (manual shift).
- When engaged and advacing, it laments with a constant loud grinding noise.
- The front drive shaft is quite a bit sloppy.
Other than that, 4x4 does work (I installed a Posi-Lok on the front diff), I checked fluid level and it's ok.
My questions are:
1) Could the whole issue be simply the bearing where the driveshaft connects to the transfer case?
2) Are 4l60e transfer cases between different years within gmt400, or else between gmt400 and gmt800 trucks, interchangeable? I know trans themselves are not, but maybe transfer cases by themselves can be swapped.
Thanks.
