I have a 89 c1500 with the 5.7 tbi and I want to get into tuning. This is my spare run around vehicle and I think it’s a decent platform to start considering it is all stock and I have replaced most all maintenance parts and it runs well. I’m debating between getting a chip burner or saving for the EBL flash system. I have a laptop that is more than capable, I just have a few questions.
1. Is there much work needed on these vehicles to install the EBL system?
2. Do I need a wideband o2, and does the EBL flash support it? I’d like to be able to safely change my fueling numbers without running too lean
3. Do you think it is a reliable system? I keep hearing about how the earlier trucks are prone to “chip creep” but I’m unsure if a similar issue would fry the EBL
4. Can a beginner with patience and a good amount of tuning knowledge(not experience) make decent improvements on a mostly stock vehicle?
