wondering if anyone here would be kind enough to send me in the right direction. Transmission in my 1991 k1500 V-6 is shot. It’s a 5 speed manual probably the 5lm60 but not sure. Want to replace with the NV4500
Or the SM465. Wondering if either is a bolt in, and what years are compatible.

I believe either would be a direct bolt in, might have to change a pigtail for the reverse light. NV4500 from 1996 and later trucks will have an internal slave, in which case you would need that plus new master line. It's covered more in this thread: https://www.gmt400.com/threads/1991-chevy-4x4-5lm60-to-nv-4500.32132/

I personally prefer the NV4500 over the SM465 due to the Overdrive gear, but some guys might not want to have to deal with the carbon fiber synchros and expensive synchromesh fluid.

If your planning on keeping the v6 the NV4500 is WAY overkill and much more expensive than a NV3500. You'll have an easier time finding one and you can use cheaper fluid in it without worry. Just food for thought.

Thanks. Appreciate it.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll keep up the search a while longer, just having trouble finding a good condition 3500 and don’t want to attempt that rebuild. The four speed is sounding more and more appealing. Even though I don’t want to lose overdrive.

i agree with others that the nv4500 is overkill, but does have both granny low & overdrive. that being said the nv3500 will handle the v6 just fine, just minus the granny low
