Took a ride yesterday and then just holding this tight to upper inlet I got 185° :Big Laugh:. Again, this thread was just to get a consensus on inaccuracy of dash gauge.

It's not great, best to verify against what the PCM is reporting to get an idea of where your truck is actually running. I've found 210 to be more like 220 in the dually.

I have three 98s that all read a little more than halfway between 100 and 210. The temperature gauge’s scale isn’t even linear, so I wouldn’t read too much into it much less try to determine the temperature that each tick mark corresponds to.

As mentioned above, a scanner can be used to read the ECT sensor output which is installed next to the thermostat. That’s the value that the computer uses and should be around the thermostat setpoint.

So dumb question which guage would you say is more accurate for a 195t stat?

Lol, opposite for me. This one (and your scanner ECT sensor reading) are what I see on mine with that thermostat.

I wouldn’t put too much stock into that gauge unless it’s rising and pegs out.

I think out guages are less accurate compared to my orginal cluster guage lol. Playing around trying to do simple math I came up with this readout. May be totally wrong but it lines up with the higher guage.

This was with iron heads, with aluminum heads the dash gauge reads hotter at the same coolant temp.
