I have a 98 Chevy c1500. It happens sparingly but some days my truck just won’t start. Battery, Alt and Starter have been tested over and over and checked good every time. If I let the truck sit after a failed start for a few hours it’ll magically work fine again for a few months. Anyone else ever have a problem like this?
If it's spinning but not firing off, it could be the ignition module inside the distributor. Another possibilty is water contaminated fuel, but you'd have other running problems, or dying fuel pump.

Wont start or won't crank?

So my battery light is on, and I'm showing 11v on my gauge inside. I checked voltage at the back of the alternator while running and its only at 12v, and that's identical to not running. This is new alternator time right? There's no fuse or anything that I can see (1992 tbi blazer) and regardless the back of the alternator itself isn't reading what it should.

Also are there any upgraded alternator available that just drop in? I can do anything with wiring, but I don't want to change mounting brackets or anything.

Assuming I'm looking at the right diagrams (I might not be, there's a ton of them for '98)... I don't think the GT139L is listed as being compatible with a '98 C1500 5.7L Suburban filler on either Wholesale GM Parts Online or Nemiga Parts. I see that part number referenced in some of the other '98 fuel filler diagrams though, like one that appears to be for fleetside pickup beds. No idea what the difference is...

So long story short, I don't know. But the GM parts diagrams seem to agree that the GT139L won't fit your '98 C1500 'burb.

I don't know why it doesn't show to fit, but that looks like the locking gas cap I have on my 99 Burb. Maybe the confusion is that the 800 series trucks used a different cap( the one that just twists in and locks as opposed to the screw in one our trucks use). I remember filling the 06 and it's the twist and lock style. Glad we're not driving that one now with its very thirsty 6.0!
The aftermarket one I use is Stant brand; we sold them in our parts store for years and I have had good luck with them. Even when gas was cheap, Dad had locking gas caps on every vehicle we had.

Awesome. I saw stant but didnt know the quality of it. I feel like everything else, it's a gamble for the lock to work or sel to stay off. But if all else fails I'll try stant and roll the dice lol.
