Hi all, I have an ECSB and have always liked the diesel bumpers w/fog lights. I plan on debadging at least as far as the impact strips all the way around. I got a W/T rear bumper because the plastic tread doesn’t stick out farther to allow for the impact strip. I finally found a diesel front bumper, but it’s chrome. Can anyone point me in the direction of a stickie or a thread on how to remove the chrome or atleast prep it to take paint?

Yes, the square holes. I just like the aesthetic of it. I stripped all the plastic off and welded up the holes where the impact strip and front license plate attach. My concern is that when I paint it, I want the paint to stick and last as long as reasonably expected.

Thanks, tpass. I didn’t know if there was a way to completely remove the chrome. It’s a chemical process to put it in there, so I wouldn’t imagine it being very easy to get off. The main thing is that I don’t want to paint it, and within a short time, have to deal with chrome peeking back through. I hate doing things TWICE!

I would just take it to a local sand blaster.. strip it all off.

I've also heard you can use an acid/water or lye/water solution and soak the part to remove chrome.. (used for nickel plated revolvers and such) but i've never done it... you would also need a pretty big tub to soak a bumper.

You can't strip chrome by media blasting. It has to be a chemical process.

Probly woulda have been farther ahead ordering a paintable one from LMC.
Was exactly what I was thinking. I usually avoid 'em for most things but the smooth (no trim holes) paintable diesel bumper is decent quality and I've bought 3 of 'em.
