Pretty good progress, but some setbacks along the way. I broke the shifter cable trying to clip it in for one thing. Stupid stuff like that.

Y-pipe, ls harness and connections tomorrow, more buttoning up, cross off the checklist stuff.

I hope it starts. No idea what tune is in the PCM, but I have the tools to at least delete VATS if I need to.

Why is that bracket blue? I bought it off craigs that way. It looks goofy, but neither one of us felt like painting it again. It's funny how we're alike in that way.

We're using a y-pipe for a NBS truck and it looks like it's going to fit perfectly but I think the stupid crossmember has to come off AGAIN. So no joy on that yet.

We then started connecting the LS harness and by the time we worked to the front it was just a hideous mess. I can't take it, which is saying something. I have to figure out a way to shove 2 harnesses where 1 normally goes and have it make sense from the standpoint of future repairs and secondarily have it look semi-decent.

Why 2 harnesses in 1 hole as opposed to merging them?

Even though I don't have the computer connected I hooked up the battery to test if A) it catches fire and B) turns over.

It didn't catch fire, but it didn't turn over either. It makes a "thunk" noise but that's it. I think I need to hook up a ground to the starter. I thought it grounded through the block, but I must have been wrong. It's a brand new AC Delco starter, so it should be good. I also put the battery on a trickle charger even though it's new too. Doesn't hurt.

You can see why I'm losing my mind over the wires everywhere.

Watched some youtube videos on the 5.3 starter replacement. It's only 2 wires, just like I have. Little wire to the solenoid, and a big wire to the battery.

Damnit.

I am using a standard 5.3 flexplate with no spacer, 4l60e transmission from a 2005 truck, and normal 5.3 truck starter. It should work ...

may I suggest you check your battery to block ground and battery to frame ground. both are super important!
