Yea, I know, but the speedometer reads wrong, and I heard that different clusters have different chips in them, so I getting a different cluster would fix this.

This is uncorrect. The PCM is where the speedo cal lives.

Yea, when I hook a scan tool up it reads correctly, but the speedometer is still off. The cluster is has it's own separate junk to decode the signal.

if the tranny goes into limp mode or you pull the trans fuse and put it into limp mode, the vehicle speed is still readable through the obd2 scanner, even though the speedo wont work at all. I had to do this a few times during diagnosis of a failed ignition switch.

Jester, I'm concerned with your trans cable. where is it? the reason I ask is mine broke right here... under the carpet before it went through the floor. it took me a while to find it aswell. I think I would personally soak this whole area and trans cable with oil. I was turning around in my laneway when I couldn't go back into park, I had to shift it on the transmission itself. the outer sheathe rotted but the inner cable was still intact, I used 4 metal clips and self tapping screws, pulled the cable back together and screwed it to the floor. rerouting a new cable dosent look like fun and it's expensive! anyways I cleaned up the rust with wire brush in a grinder and then soaked the **** out of all of it with used motor oil. fuckit. so I had a hole in my floor mat, that let salty water off my winter boots. now I have a couple layers of floor mat that does drain the water out the door, I think this was 4 years ago.

I’m with you there. I got a reg cab long bed and I don’t think I could go back to anything else lol. Sucks about your buddies’ ranger, glad he’s alright though.
