For the 2021 Storm Season, I decided I need to build myself a nice storm chase vehicle.

Not to say my last one wasn't nice, but it had a few issues.

This '95 Burb has 340k on the original engine and even transmission, but those were highway miles, so I was confident in it being up to the task to chase.

Well the first 2500 miles of the trip were pretty good (other than my forecasting skills) until only 4 hours from home, the rear seal of the 4l60e decided to commit suicide and splattered trans fluid everywhere.

Despite this, I was able to fix the seal and limp it home, but the damage was done since 2nd/3rd had left the building. I ended up sticking a used TH350 into it, and after I smoothed out all the bugs of the swap, it drove great. The problem was that with no OD, I would probably have to mortgage my house to pay for gas.

Anyways, I sold the '95 and bought a '98 which is better in almost every way.

It has way less miles, more solid body, Manually shifted 4wd, and A/C.

The one thing I am not completely thrilled about, though, is the fact that its vortec and not TBI like all my previous GMT400s.

Anyways, it runs great and I'm going to turn it into my ultimate storm chase vehicle.

I deem this truck ready to be daily driven.

I fixed the exhaust (the pipe was broken off the manifold). Did the ECM ground recall update (stops the trans from eating 3-4 clutches/2-3 shift flare). And even installed a radio from the junkyard where the original was missing.

I also put a new grille on, and did a NASA quality repair on the cracked dash.

Speaking of that, literially yesterday while at work, I got pelted by hail, and was within 2 miles of a confirmed tornado.

I just graduated high school, and work as a cart pusher at a grocery store, so while trying to get as many loose carts as possible (we don't want cars being blown into cars) I got blown down by some 90mph straight line winds, hail, and everything else.

Illinois always seems to have at least one big unseasonal tornado event a year.

Gotta respect mother nature. Good luck and be safe out there.

Had a bit of a setback, my transmission seems to have de-manufactured itself.

All of a sudden, I lost all gears, and it acted like it had no line pressure.

I head it could be a clogged filter, so I changed the filter/fluid, and it seems to be fixed. Though I don't know for how long.

The trans definitely feels a bit tired, so I'd like to invest in a remanufactured unit before going across country.
