Nice choice :D I had those on my old '88 and loved them.
IF it were up to me I would tune out the rear two cats, get a new high flow cat. then do a 2.5" y pipe into a single 3" with a THrush welded, Magnaflow, Dynomax Bullet, Hooker Aerochamber then run it out to the exit of your choice.

Im thinking true duals, 2.5" pipe, no cats, X-Pipe, and maybe some bassani or corsa's.

But thanks your opinion man.

cheers

2.5 is to big and you will lose low end, But it is your choice, 2.25" is better, and H pipe is better for low end and needs to be as close to the front as possible.
and cats are cheap, I would run them, then will take the pop out and be better for the enviro.
I have a thunderbolt cat, it was $35 bucks

wow basically the exact opposite of what i researched... hmmm originally thats what i was going to run because Hooker has Header back mandrel bent tubing in 2.25" and i was just going to buy that. Then on another site they said X over H and if you have any kind of programmer to go 2.5". And the reason i wasnt going to run cats was because we dont need them here and it would cut down on cost but 35.00 is diddly.

Back @ square one i guess lol

Well even if you are tuned or have mods, 2.5" is overkill and I would think you want all the lowend you can have, 2.25" will cause more pop but with cats, and h pipe as close to the front as possible and the mufflers you want will be good.
how is it going to exit? going to run tips?

I don't like true duals, but I am just trying to help you out with the best performing setup.

You bet i want all the low end i can get.... i want to run a some what hidden exhaust exit where it comes out just behind the rear tires and faces down like on the old camaro's. I dont think i will run tips, it all depends on how loud it is... i definatley dont want that battery, back firing, glass pack sound.

2.5" will lose you top end so ya 2.25" would be better but I think with the programmer it won't be as bad. I know guys with 2 1/2" duals and no crossover with a black bear tune and barely noticed any loss in the low end.

Also I've read lots that x-pipe is better than an h-pipe and it makes sense, just look at the shape. The crossover section of the "X" continues to flow away from the headers whereas an "H" just connects the pipes at a 90* angle, which I don't see being as good as an X-pipe.

I've also read that 2.5" duals into a 3" single is much better than 2 1/2" duals all the way back and in some cases even better than 2 1/4" duals.

I'd go catless since we don't need em here, they're not going to do any good performace wise so i'd take em out. Also don't go with a magnaflow, dynomax, glasspack type muffler if you don't want it to pop, I had my cats cut out for like a week and my magnaflow sounded like a glasspack. I've heard good things about spintech pro streets or Borla XR-1's though.

Just my .02

X pipe will help on top end but the H pipe evens out the two individual pipes and helps scavenging, which is the goal with exhaust
I still would go with 2.25" plus it is cheaper.
Cats won't hurt or help performance, but will help with sound and you wont have the nasty exhaust smell.
