Low cost is relative, but I've been looking to put a 383 in mine for a while, I don't really want to go with a full crate motor, I just want the extra displacement of a 383. I'm fortunate that I was able to find another vortec 350, bored it .030 over and am putting a stroker kit in it with a compression of 9.5:1. That'll be plenty of power for me. If you're not able to rebuild an engine, a 383 will run you around 2000 new, probably about the same if you pay somebody to rebuild yours. You can just go the used route as mentioned before, a 350 isn't hard to find for under a grand, it really depends on your budget, your skill level, and how much time and tools you have on hand.
