Yeah i plan on fully checking it out soon. He is a teacher at my school, but he recently bought a motorcycle so he doesnt drive it anymore. Gonna ask him if i can see it closer in person, take pics and check it out. He is my mechanics teacher and has been working on OBS Chevys and GMCs since they were brand new.

Offer him 4k cash, its a Valley truck.

Really? Wow. I hated TBI for the longest when I first got it because of idiotic reasons I won't expound on but lately I've 1. Found that I could run the exact exhaust I wanted (thought that was only a vortec thing 2. Thought only vortecs could be tuned, not true 3. The biggest reason, reliability.

I got plenty of buddys with vortec motors and the only pro I have found to owning that over TBI is it's a roller setup and more HP but It makes me not want to mess with even owning one when I see ALL the different sort of problems and countless fuel pumps my buddies have gone through compared to mine, which it's just always ready to go. It's simple, it's less HP but these tbi's are all torque which is great low end power and just what I need for towing. I've noticed when I put my truck in 4LOW it freaking ROMPS and when I put a vortec in 4LO It just wasn't the same. Not trying to race anyone so as I've owned the truck I've really grown to love TBI.

You can get the best of both worlds with a built Vortec TBI. :evillol:

I got my truck cheap ($2300 on ebay with 222k miles) but had my share of problems to fix. Mainly because the PO was a mechanical idiot. As it sits, now I have about 6 in it, and it's still just a workhorse/beater. The reason I bought it was the body though. Yeah, it's dented and scratched but it's rust-free...which is HUGE in NY. 90% of the local 88-98 trucks are junk by now, and that's why mine is a NC native. haha

Blue book on my truck in my area even with the mileage was $6550. I looked at quite a few trucks that had been throughly beat on offroad and were a mess before I got this one. Like I said lots of repairs/maintenance had been done and were documented, the interior and undercarriage are super clean. Ya its got some dents and scratches but the paint does still hold an shine and its still a sharp truck from 10' away.

I also thought the price was high when I started looking. These trucks really hold their value here. No way at all I could get a comparable shape NBS truck around here for 5K. It would be a beat to death, falling apart rattle trap.....

oh i gotcha man, i dont live too far away and its the same deal around here. Under 5k your gunna have to look really hard to find something not used up and molested. I actually bought my current truck in Spartanburg, SC. nice guy, adult 1 family owned, never been offroad.

Cool man hope you enjoyed your visit.

I also looked at a 94 ECSB that supposedly had a new engine and trans (no documentation) and recent paint. It had 266k miles, needed lots of front end work and had quite a few other issues. It was a super sharp truck but price was 6500. It needed at least 1500 worth of work and the seller wouldn't budge. Told me the front end was fine. You had to turn the wheel almost a 1/4 turn before the steering moved.....

So did you buy the truck JD?

Trust me, i wouldve posted if i did . I have the dudes class tomorrow afternoon so ill talk business after school. Hopefully he drives it tomorrow, so i can thoroughly check it. If not, ill ask him to bring it on Wednesday next week. He says he still needs to "fix it up" to get it looking "nice" but im gonna try to get him to sell it as-is for less.

On the topic of the 88'-94' vs. 95'-00' obs debate, i actually love the old generation interiors, but ever since i've ridden in my uncles new NBS (arent they remarkably similar?), ive come to quite like the newer interiors. Also the fact that it's a EC is a BIG ONE for me. I absolutely HATE the restriction of space in Reg cabs. I want a backseat to put school stuff/haul stuff in. Always loved EC OBSes.

Anywho we still need to work out a deal when it comes to the actual price and buy, since theres no way in hell i can scrounge up $5000 cash all at once with my ****** job. Will keep you guys posted. I'm very committed to this since I'm getting tired of my piece of **** rcsb.

On another note, what exactly should i look for besides the following:
-Mileage
-Maintenance (big one. my Durango's front transfer case was dry when my mom bought it because no one really checked it out, wasn't a big deal though)

-Also want to see how the frame looks, mine is surface-rusted like crazy
-Take pics, obviously.

Okay I just talked to him, he said shes got maybe 160k miles on her clock, original Vortec 350, and he's gonna re-paint the hood and roof next week. What should i do? Offer him less and say ill do the work myself?
