Hi guys,
I have a new to me 1994 GMC suburban with 100k miles that has a " clacking " noise coming from the ac pump when the AC is on. I have checked the aluminum housing mounting bolts and they are all present and tight. I have checked the idler pulley and it makes no sound consistant with a bad bearing. The clacking noise is constant and does not change with engine RPM
I have also pulled the clutch and pulley and although there was some grease and junk that apparently came from the bearing, and there was some play in the bearing the bearing does not catch or make a whirling sound when spun by hand or when the motor is running with AC off. after cleaning and re-instaling the clutch assembly the noise got a little louder.
I have read many threads about these R4s but am still confused on what to do to fix it. The sound I am talking about is the same as in this y-tube video. Unfortunatly, the person who posted this video did not make a comment on what he did to fix his condition.
can someone here who has gone threw this before tell me if changing out the clutch assembly and pulley will fix this condition, or what I must do to fix this noise. The AC does blow cold and seems to work fine .
Many Thanks,
