I found a rebuilt trans. It's from a fire department brush truck. They are willing to let me do 8 hours of "community service" for the trade.

Its out of a 98 c3500 with 6.5 with nv4500 (2wd)

My truck is a 94 c2500 (8lug) with 5.7 came with NV4500 (2wd) from the factory

I know the bell housing wont work. But they look exactly the same. Same yoke and everything.

Transmission has less than 3k miles on it and was rebuilt 3 years ago. The truck was totaled (rolled) but they said I could have the transmission.

Looks as if the bellhousing bolt pattern is a bit taller on the 98 than in the 94. Maybe I can drill the transmission to accept the older bolt pattern?

Did confirm the 98 is a different bolt pattern on the bellhousing

But. I can grab a 98 5.7 bell housing, convert everything over to hydraulic slave bearing instead of the arm and we should be golden. Gonna cost me about $400 but I should be able to get the truck back onto the road quick.

According to advanced adapters website the input shafts are the same for GM NV4500 for all years. The front bearing retainer is different on the 96+ and the bolt pattern of course.

Maybe? Just thoughts.

Anyone has experience with this or knows who I should talk to about it let me know.

I'm seriously considering grabbing that trans and hitting the junk yard for a 96+ bellhousing

Didn't know......GM kept their bellhousing bolt pattern the same across the board for the engine to bellhousing pattern. So I'm gonna grab the 6.5 bell housing and all the clutch stuff. It should work.

For anyone who's following.

Looks like so far, I need the 98 trans, the 98 bellhousing, and the clutch hydraulic line.

Looks like GM used a standard style of fitting on the master cylinder and the slave cylinder. So it should drop right in. No more external slave but will have a internal slave.

The bell housing is different due to the 96+ being a "taller" bolt spacing on the nv4500. Also the front bearing retainer is different size and different due to the slave.

Anyway. Keeping y'all updated. Mainly for me. But if anyone is thinking about it. Things I didn't know. Like the bellhousing are different nv4500 mounting spacing.

Here's some talk about the hydraulic line setup. https://www.s10forum.com/threads/clutch-master-line-replacement.364171/

Here's some reading about the different NV4500s GM used
