And I know alot of people are criticizing me for adding power to an L31 2 bolt main but besides the point.
Punch 'em in the junk. Unless you're surpassing 450 hp or towing 5000+ lbs, 2 bolt mains are plenty.

Can I put in 1.6 rocker arms with my factory cam and still make more hp
Yes. There are people out there spending $300+ on cams no bigger than putting 1.6s on a Vortec cam. My recommendation is to either call your favorite cam company and fork over $300 for a cam in the .480"-.500" lift range, or you can spend $120 on a set of stamped 1.6 self-aligning rockers and hit .442/.457 lift. The 1.6s will probably play nice with stock springs. If you spend the $300 on a larger cam, you'll be spending another $200 on LS2 springs and Comp Cams 787-16 retainers to accomodate >.480" lift.

Any which way you'll need a tune.

This guy tows closer to 10k with what he ASSumes is a 2 bolt main with zero issues. I think RPM is more a factor than load, but still, you need to make some adult power before the 2 bolts main becomes an issue.

Back when I was searching for heads for ElCies motor I tried to find a set of 882's. After seeing this I'm kinda' glad now that I didn't.

To sum it up, unless the heads flow air at the increased lift number from 1..6's......nobody knows.
well considering i have short hooker headers going to 3 inch straight pipe and naturally aspirated I'd say I'd have alot to gain upgrading to port polished heads and 1.6 rockers and a good tune

My circa 2005 Mexican 062s flowed 215 @ 0.450 and tanked to 208 @ 0.500. Known this for a decade. The good Canadian 906s off my 97s stock engine that hydraulic locked and exploeded in 2004 flowed 242 @ 0.500 on the same bench, same fixture, etc.

Here was another article talking about the junk Mexican heads that are even more crack prone than the production ones despite GMs attempt to correct cracking. On their bench the Mexican 062s stalled out at only 0.400 lift with 214 cfm then tanked to 207 cfm @ 0.450.

I thought you rolled bearings in that engine? My 97s stock engine was a 4 bolt but the by VIN Goodwrech was a 2-bolt. I actually took it up with GM and they put in writing that the 4-bolt would be warrantied in my 97 for the full 3-year and 50K miles. At the time the 2 and 4 bolt were less than $50 difference and the 4 bolt had a better crank and single roller timing set. I still have that shortblock on a stand at the shop covered up for a later project.

I did roll bearings in, but not out of necessity. I was already in there. I do have a 4 bolt block on the shelf begging to become a 383 though. Not gonna be a priority until I put a rod through the 2 bolt block.

That could be a long time. Short of hydraulic lock that killed my 97s first engine. My buddy has ~470K on his short block in his work truck.
