Rather risk damaging the terminal end trace wire back to an area that was covered or more protected to expose the original color even locating what it connected too.

It appears to be routed the same as my trailer brake power wire, as well, with the blue and white along the driverside frame.

Ok. It looks like the heavy orange wire may be for an auxiliary trailer battery. Lookup, "7-Way RV Blade — SAE Configuration"

I would look for an orange wire near the trailer harness at the rear of the truck. If there is, check it for power. If it has power, I'm wrong. If it doesn't, make sure the terminal in the engine bay is not touching anything and then check for continuity between the orange wire at the hitch end and the frame. If there is no continuity, ground the terminal in the engine bay and check continuity again. If no continuity, again, I'm wrong. If it does have continuity, you have your answer.
