Plug and play. Nothing else needed except the tools and power steering fluid.

Check Engine Light will not come on. The only reason a Check Engine Light comes on is from an emissions-related fault. EVO does not affect emissions.

Tie the loose connector up out of the way as it will no longer be needed.

Instructions attached. (Some say you can perform the replacement with the power steering pump still installed. Do some research or wait for someone to respond here. I had my power steering pump off, so I wasn't concerned about doing the replacement with the power steering pump still installed.)
okay great just wanted to make sure before going through with it. I’ve got the part ordered. Should be here next week, and yeah I’ve already got the pump off as well so that won’t be an issue. Thanks for the info man. Saved me a lot of headache.)
One word of warning about the GM 19168825 EVO bypass kit... It does introduce an extra connection point that could fail/leak. I had that kit on both of my '97s. It's still on the Suburban with no issues, but the one on my red truck started leaking behind the pump after a few months. I decided to take a different approach on the red truck and swapped to a 1996 power steering pump and pressure line. This combo eliminates the extra connection point that the bypass introduced, and has identical performance to the OEM '97 pump with the bypass.

As others have mentioned, removing the EVO will not trigger a check engine light. There will be stored codes that a good scan tool will pick up, but nothing that would trigger a dash light.
Thanks for the heads up, I’ll be sure to check it daily for leaks. I’ll post an update on how it holds up after a while of driving the truck. If fails I’ll check out the ’96 pump swap.

Sounds interesting. Do you know of one that would work with Hydroboost?

Neither of my trucks have hydroboost, so not off the top of my head. Are there any differences between the hydroboost lines/connections between 1996 and 1997? If not then I would assume that any stock replacement hydroboost pump and pressure line for a '96 should work.

To confirm: EVO was first implemented on 1997 C/Ks, right?

Thanks for the info, that’s exactly what I needed to know. Is there anything that needs to be done when installing this kit besides installing it? Does it throw any dash lights ?
They’re about 40$ or so new
I have a brand new one for sale 25$ shipped out the door !
These do work for the most part if you desire to not dump unnecessary $$ into a older style 96’ pump and line just cause. Boils down to a decision.
Like others say it’s just ((potentially)) more places to leak if it ever does .
I Went with the 96 PS pump And line .

Does the radiator have the small hose at the neck that returns to the reservoir bottle?
