Vortec valve seats?

I have not done a teardown on a OE vortec head yet. I wonder what the reason for the change. Cost, better induction process, was inserts unnecessary as fuel combustion requirements.

Cost cutting, extra time, extra machining, extra parts to do seats. In my experience it was the over 8600 gvwr that got the hardened exhaust seats, early model USA production as opposed to Mexico produced engines and heads.

I thought the Mexico cast blocks were only crate engines in the US?
