i was wondering is there any axle swaps i can do to my 89 gmc c1500 1/2 ton without any serious mods to my suspension?
I have the 10 bolt with 8.5" ring gear i want to go to something with posi trac

14bsf out of a similar gen 1500 heavy duty or 2500 light duty 2wd. Direct swap aside from a conversion u-joint.

One option would be to install a new carrier like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/aub-542022/overview/make/chevrolet/model/c1500/year/1989 in the housing you already have. unless you really want the added strength of the 14 bolt semi-float axle

his other issue with the 9.5 is he would need one from a 454ss to have the 5 lug needed for his 2wd, those are not all that easy to find and if you do they are not giving those away these days

If you're looking for a good posi then you want aftermarket.
