My temperature gauge has been going pretty high but engine /rad doesn't seem to be very hot to the touch. Its a 88 silverado 1500 5.7. Was sitting a few years. I was thinking of doing the new thermostat and temp sensor. Is the only temp sensor on the 88 beside the housing?
why not varify with a temp gun before replacing anything?
They're cheap.
head getting hot, fast could be head gasket failure, warped head etc.

fire it at the temp sender threads or head close to it, guage and temp gun should be pretty close. If they are it's not the guage.

The sensor and head reads around 90 95 Celsius so definitely must be the gauge is off abit. The rad and everything is around 70 80

sounds good assuming you're running the stock 195 deg thermostat.
GMT400 gauges are notoriously unaccurate, what does the gauge read?
