They ran Squarebodies through 91 too, but that doesn't mean the 400's didn't start in 88.

I can’t find a single picture of a 90 or 91 model with cables. Maybe they all have swapped for straps?

That's probably right. I've got a 98 I bought in 99 with 17k on it and I'm sure Albert didn't do any swapping of cables. But I do remember GM had a recall on the cables because some were breaking. That's when I was doing bodywork and I got the chevy dealership parts dept to send me a couple. They're still hanging in there 300k miles later. (Pun intended)

I have pulled straps off 91 and 92s. The 92 had the rubber bumpers. No idea if they are original. I do have a few extra sets of tailgate straps if anyone wants them. Bought them to convert my trucks and had some left.
