I had a pretty bad leak from the shifter on top of the NV4500 trans.

I ordered a new seal, the square one under the shifter. I haven't got it yet but I'm worried it may not be correct? The one I pulled out is bent and the one online appears to be flat. Is it supposed to be metal on top and rubber on bottom? And is it supposed to be bent like this? Both the shifter and trans surface appear to be flat.

Flat surfaces, warped seal. Yeah, something ain't right. Has someone pulled the tranny some time in the past? Looks like you found your leak.

Yes, a transmission shop allegedly replaced the clutch, and both the master and slave cylinder before I owned it.

Guess I'll see what happens when I put a new seal on it

Whats the correct assembly for the spacer/bushings the bolts go through?

They had the bushing in the shift tower not in the rubber piece. I think it pushed down on the corners which caused the bending? You can see marks around the bolt holes

Edit: After doing some research I think they installed the spacer upside down. The metal was facing up towards the shifter. Apparently it's supposed to face down towards the trans?

And it looks like the bushings do go into the shifter assembly, not the rubber spacer

I'm guessing the bushings go in the bolt holes of the rubber seal. They give the shifter tower something to tighten against without crushing the rubber too much.

Yep. Been years since I had one apart but I believe that's correct. Possibly got left out at some point and overtorqued, damaging the seal.
