Hello new here..

I'm looking at buying a 1990 Chevrolet GMT 400 with manual trans 5.7L 4x4.

Which manual trans did chevy put in the 1 ton GMT 400 SRW trucks?

Thanks!

That truck will have a SM465 4-speed with granny low. NV4500 started in 1992. Half ton / light duty 2500 got the 5LM60 then NV3500 in 1993.

Bam, correct thanks. To bad, because I already have a 1991 with SM465 but with the 6.2 n/a.

They put a nv3500 in the 3/4 ton? wow

A '92-'94 NV4500 will fit directly in place of an SM465.

Thanks.. I don't think my 6.2 has enough guts to pull my truck in a 5th gear.

So the NV4500 was only available in 92.. What year did chevy stop using it?

I had a E350 with a cummins 5 speed and loved that combo except it wasn't 4x4

I loved our '88 454 motivated C3500.. Problem was that stupid dump truck SM465 trans.. I spent a year looking for a trans and gave up after a buddy made a good offer for it. I didn't drive it much since the top speed was pretty much 60mph, didn't feel like making the engine spin any faster. Truck was cool and I'm hoping to find another one some day.

Yeah my 1991 4x4 truck is screaming at 65. 4:10

Whats strange is Iv found a few pre 1992 chevy's for sale that say that have the 5 speed?

Did the half tons get a 5 speed earlier? Or are they including reverse? haha

The 92-94 version of the NV4500 had the granny 1st gear and an external slave cylinder. In 95, first gear switched to 5.61 (also the first year Dodge offered it) and went to an internal slave cylinder. I’m not exactly sure when GM stopped using it, but I think it was well into the 2000’s.
