I'm Awesome
I found a good supply of NOS OEM Gentex auto dimming mirrors with built in compass, and homelink garage door opener built in from an unlikely source. Kia. Yes Kia. Gentex is the OEM supplier to pretty much everybody including GM. These are the dealer installed units and come with wiring, instructions , plastic wire channel etc. It seems that these are offered when customers buy their car new for about $200 plus labor for install. However when that model is discontinued, the mirror gets discontinued.
Recently I purchased 2 homelink auto dimming mirrors with built in compass for $10 each plus shipping, and sales tax. The plan is to use them in my new daily driver and my wifes van. So for under $30 per mirror you can have a brand new one with built in homelink. It's a 3 wire hook up which is pretty simple.
I ordered one from kiacheapparts.com , and one from Tascaparts.com. these bolt right onto any standard windshield mirror mount. the part number is A7062-ADUP1. I also picked up an auto dimming one with compass and no homelink (a different PN#) that I can post up to this thread later for $5 plus shipping a few months back and it only cost me $22 total with shipping to my doorstep. Theres several different PN#s for these mirrors probably based on what model vehicle the install kit is for, but the mirror is the same.
You may be able to stop in your local Kia dealer and get a list of all the OBS PNs for them, and do an internet search. The homelink mirrors I hunted for 6 months ago, and came up with nothing but dead ends (out of stock), then all of a sudden they popped up again at 2 places I had tried once before, so I hurried and ordered them.
I will take pix of these tomorrow and post PN of the one without the homelink option so you can see what you would be getting when you purchase one of these.
Hope this helps
