my truck had a 3 spd th400 with cable shift linkage that the Po put in it. that POS finally blew out but left me wondering what trans i can put in the truck. i drive a 95 gmc 350ci. i plan on SASing it and running 49 inch military tires, i am worried the original 4l60e wont hold up. any ideas?

I second that motion....rebuild the 400. Put 4L80E molded pistons, a transgo shift kit, and an Allison torque converter in it. It will be bullet proof.

Just go with 4l80e take out all of the E stuff make manual valve body. Or if you have money go with a power glide and get it well built.

definitly no to the 4l60, if your going with 49 inch tires and plan on using them off road alot id suggest 5 speed manual swap

that would be a great idea for street truck with street tires but 49 inch tires with a 4l80 would be bad, 1st gear would be very odd
