Just acquired a '95 with the 4.3, year specific issues?

250k miles, early vortec 5 speed/nv3500, 4wd. Shifts perfectly but runs a little rough. Plan on doing a complete tuneup, rebuilding tbi, etc. I know in other gm vehicles it seems like the 95 model years always have some funky things going on with computer systems and wiring. What, if anything, is specific to the 95 trucks? Would it be worth eventually swapping the 4.3 to a 350 out of another 95?

I wanna say in the S10 that the 95 might have been a really good year. Multipoint without a spider, somewhere in that range. I believe the trucks were either TBI or Vortec though. Only thing weird about a GMT400 95 is new interior old powertrain. I think a 1 year only trans too?

I thought I read somewhere that the bellhousing was specific to 95 so you may be right. But it's still a TBI with "vortec" on the valve covers. I have experience with earlier non vortec engines and also 96+ vortec WITH the spider. So hopefully this in between engine style proves to be decent lol

Don't quote me on this, but I believe that those TBI 4.3's with the plastic vortec valve covers may have roller lifters, but I've seen VERY few of them and things may have been swapped around, so I've never confirmed if that was a factory job.

The trans is one year only though. a 1995 trans is not electronically compatible with any other year

Is that year specific trans just the 4.3/5 speed ? What about the 5.7/Auto in 95 K2500 is that year specific?

I should have been more specific, I was referring to a 1995 4l60e. They are only electronically compatible with another 1995 4l60e. If your K2500 is 8 lug, it will have a 4l80e all 95+ 4l80e's are interchangable with the exception of the cooler line location changing in 97 and the addition of a bellhousing bolt when behind an LS engine. If your K2500 is 6 lug, it has a 4l60e.

Actually LS engines lose a bolt. My 350/4L80E has 7 bellhousing bolts. LS engines only use 6 bolts.

I think he was probably referring to the extra bolt hole in the 12 o'clock position of the bellhousing on the LS 4L80Es, not so much the actual bolts.

What I am saying by that is that upper 12 o'clock bolt was done before the Gen3 engines were around. I have seen them present in TBI era G-vans. The trans behind the 8.1 in my Tahoe came from a 95 6.5 diesel truck and has that bolt hole.

I was referring to the addition of the 12 o'clock hole in the bellhousing that came around at the same time the LS was released, 99 or so. As for anything having the top hole earlier than 99, especially behind a 6.5, I'd venture to guess they were swapped to a newer style trans. However the late small blocks definitely did have a top hole that was used, I've seen quite a few in vans.

Also, LS engines use 8 bellhousing bolts, 2 are in the oil pan like on later 4.3's, however the bellhousing holes on the oil pan are in a different locations between the 2. I guess they are moreso dust-cover-to-oil-pan bolts with an 80e.
