Does anyone know what is the exact paint code for 1998 steel wheels? Gray of course but am looking to paint my wheels and looking for the factory color. Another question is will the wider 8'" wheel beauty ring fit my 7 " wheel. The rings on now are narrow. And didnt know if they would clear the inner lip on the wheel. Thanks 20190806_153300.jpg

    It's called 'Argent Silver'.
There is actually 2 GM versions of the factory color.
Early wheels in that color had a slight green tinge. Later ones are closer to a true sliver. I don't know exactly when the change was made.
Most part stores sell it in aerosol cans. How close is it to being right, or which variant?
Eastwood also sells Argent Silver wheel paint too. Again, which version? Well...
Depending on how particular you are, I don't know if all that r-e-a-l-l-y matters.
Only the true resto-geeks would be able to distinguish between the two.

Thanks ill start checking to see what i can find locally. I guess either would look better than the faded slightly rusted wheel that is there now. Any ideas on the beauty rings?

The ralleys I have are 7" & they have the really skinny rings from the 6" wide wheels. Haven't tried to fit the rings from the 8" wheels.
Only thing I can suggest with the rings is to try one on a wheel. How are you fixed for wreckers around there? They would probably let you try one to test fit.

I painted mine grey instead of the OEM silver. I wanted a little more contrast with the chrome hub cap and trim ring. I also think it will show less dirt and the inevitable return of rust (I wire wheeled and chemically pretreated). This grey also matches the 4x4 decal. I had leftover paint so I also painted the diff cover with it when I changed the fluid 20190419_191607.jpg 20190405_143345.jpg 20190405_143345.jpg 20181004_195136.jpg 20190215_141104.jpg

That looks great. Good idea with the contrasting color. Mine are the regular steel wheels but just trying to make them look better until i can find better. Im still looking for the wide beauty ring to test fit on my current wheels. I recently found a picture of some 15x8 corvette style wheels on a 98 like mine and thought they looked really good. My problem is that i am so new to the trucks that im afraid im just asking the same old queations and people do get tired of answering them. I am looking to do a 3/5 drop and needing to know if the 15's will work and what size tires. I finally found all the interior pieces to finish my interior so i am working on that this week. I think that is in another thread. Its hard starting on a new vehicle. If i was working on a G body i would know everything to do but these trucks are still new to me and when you read so much i just get confused, plus old age doesnt help. After i get the interior back together ill start on the wheels and see what happens it has to look better than what i have now. Thank you so much for responding

To be honest the few yards around here are full of lazy workers that dont really care to help you. I have been really lucky at the recycling yards but with prices so cheap they have vehicles literally stacked 10 high and is really so dangerous they have stopped letting people in until things get cleared out. Whenever steel pricea go back up. I have seen so many trucks and cars with rare parts that im dying to get in but they just wont let anyone right now.
