In my thread, "Free or Cheap mods", there was a discussion started about everyone pooling together to fund some dyno runs and actually test some theories. I figured I might be best equipped since I have both big and small block trucks, and I live less than five minutes from a dyno. Chime in if you disagree. The cost is $125 per hour to rent the dyno and have one of his techs run it, and I will be able to swap parts myself to save money on labor. Obviously on larger parts such as headers, exhaust, etc, it will take a little more time, and would be beneficial to do separate runs between parts swaps, and then it's only $80 for a 3-pull numbers run, so a total of $160 for a baseline and then see what the part does. Mainly we were talking about intake setups and such, but I'm open to anything. I already have some parts, like a Volant intake on the big block (which I have already figured how to fit to the smallblock) and both K&N and Spectre Filters, along with stock paper ones, of course. I don't imagine it would take much more than an hour to test all of those. The idea is for everyone to pitch in a little for dyno time and parts. If it's a part I want to keep, I'll reimburse ya'll according to what you put in, if it's not, I'll sell it and pay you back what you put in. I, for one, would like to see some numbers put up and stop guessing, what do ya'll think.

Who's the dyno shop? $125 an hour is pretty steep around here, but I can understand why some of the guys down there can get that price.

First I think we need to do a myth busters style test on descreening the MAF with both the factory and Volant CAIs. However, I'm not sure how accurate the results would be doing it with a BBC intake on a SBC. Just seems like it would skew the info.

I wonder if someone with a small block set up lives close enough to you too let us borrow it or meet you there where you could just pull it off their truck to test with.

I'll start trying to find a spare MAF that works to send down. Then we can descreen it to compare to your factory one with the screen.

Ive got at least 10 MAFs laying around, and the only difference in big and small block Volants is the tubing length, the airbox is the same

Without the computer being tuned for a descreened maf I doubt youll see any gains at all.

you honestly want us to pay, for you to goto the dyno to try CAI's, descreening MAF's and stuff that literally would add like 1-3HP?...

Come on...
