When i open the driver door my overhead light comes on ; however it doesnt when i open the passenger. Is that the striker/ plunger gone out? How do you change it if so

Sounds like the plunger switch.

The wiring harness unclips from inside the dash. The passenger side is probably easier to get to. Squeeze the tabs and push the switch out. Or (honestly) just break it apart from the outside and pull the harness through.

Agreed!
Working from the outside is the easier way.
If careful you can break the existing switch into pieces small enough to pass thru the hole.
Be careful not to lose the wires into the dash
Also, it seems from my part search via 1A Auto that there are 2 different switches.
The difference is the length of the plunger.
Switch diameter & connections are the same
