the nice thing about northstars is it wont go bad as often as most vehicles PROVIDED its breathing okay under the hood. 9/10 thats not the case, but still sees longer life span. The intake manifold was made a little less worse to pull later in the years too. But still, its the thought of htings.If I remember right... at one of the early Lemons races there was a team of experienced mechanics driving terribly and racking up on-track penalties. Finally the race judges pulled them off-track. At the same time there was a newbie team of not-very-experienced mechanics. The starter went out on their Northstar motor, and with it being under the intake manifold, they were struggling. The judges turned to the team of bad drivers and said, "You guys wanna get back on track? Change their starter.", and they got it done fairly quick. They also drove better afterwards.
It also meant that GM wouldnt be using their literal best transaxle for any other engines despite the fact the LS4 and L67 (and whatever the series 3 3800 was) were above the weight and torque ability of their transmission. ******* GM.(bellhousing)
