Im a Kenwood guy, and just ran across the KMM-BT312U. Doesnt play CDs but I quit using them a while back. Has bluetooth, hooks up to i-devices and Android and has 3 pre-outs. $99.00 or cheaper. I think thats the way Im going to go. Oh, when you want to upgrade a little, theres a Sirius Sat receiver that plugs into it for $69.00.

You just have to be smart enough to shop around, like you did.. however Amazon had my stereo listed for $119 , i payed $139 but I also got the antenna adapter, wiring and installation kit so I'm happy with my purchase from crutchfield. ... now mind you on the big ticket items I search long and hard for the best deals...

It's only half price now?? It used to be free... Even more of a rip off considering that.

I didn't even do any Googling on that one, I'm sure I could find that model even cheaper. It's easy to give the cheap stuff away when you're gouging prices on the actual equipment that much. Also if you were to get the model numbers of the dash kit, wiring harness, and antenna adapters and search those out separately on Amazon or eBay I guarantee that you'll find them for next to nothing. I've bought thousands of dollars worth of stuff from Crutchfield before I saw the light and I don't hate them, they've got great customer service. The real eye opener for me though was when I bought my red truck's head unit. Crutchfield had it listed for $1300, I found it from another reputable source (don't remember where, I'd have to dig out the paperwork) for less than $900. Needless to say, I saved myself over $400. That's a considerable markup for just some good customer service.

poor examples of cheap stereos..... you said "everything" is overpriced.... I just bought 2 cheap setups (cheap as in at least half the price of that stereo linked on amazon) for 2 different trucks and best price found was crutchfield... and apparently im not the only one who knows that :hmm::shocked:

I wasn't posting those for the sake of suggesting a stereo to the OP, (although that is a great unit) I was posting them to illustrate the price gouging point I was making. Sure at the cheaper levels there's going to be less difference, but there's still a difference.

Just for the hell of it I figured up the parts for the install on eBay. With a wiring harness, antenna adapter and dash kit you're looking at $113.41 as opposed to $130 from Crutchfield. Not as significant, but it's still there. Spend your money how you want, it's yours.

Just had a thought. 96C1500, if your main goal is to fix the burnt out lights then you could do something like this instead of opening up your existing unit.

A little more expensive, but you retain factory looks and function plus get the added benefit of an AUX input. Not necessarily the best choice if you ever plan on adding subs or any other external amps, but it's an option.

I already have a sub and I'm sick of having to mess with my hacked wiring any time I take the radio out of the dash, so I'm probably going to hit up Walmart today
