14 bolt it a heavier duty rear end then the 10 bolt. was put in mostly 1500hd the 454 ss and 2500 light duty trucks. the semi floating is the lighter duty version of the full floating rear end put it 2500 and 3500. You can tell its a full float if it has the eight bolts on the hubs that hold the axles in vs the c clips and by the diff cover on the ff is boxier and not interchangeable between the two

you forgot the 8600gvw 2500 having the 8 lug 9.5 14b sf , the 10.5ff was optional(usually found in 6.5td and 454 powered trucks), the 1500 suburban with the 6.5 had 8 lug 9.5 sf

Now I'm starting to wonder if I should just swap the ring and pinion and just keep what I have. I understand how it's done - setting backlash and blue printing.

Just wondering how hard in reality it is to do while my rear is still in the truck...

setting up used gears in a different housing is a little harder and a real drag in the truck, if its not back in the same mesh they tend to be noisier, i would just use the new axle as is, that g80 is weak and tend to explode so you really shouldnt use it, that usually is the main reason why so many people look for rearends for these trucks
