It is a lesser factor in roller cams because they do not have the break in procedure of flat tappets, but I would still try to avoid the cam cores from China if possible.

I've been hearing complaints about flat tappet cams going flat due to inferior materials being used. Is this a non issue in a roller motor like the L31, or are manufacturers cranking out crap on those as well?

Just make sure you specify a billet core. Both the cams in my trucks have billet cores. @L31MaxExpress ate a cast roller comp cam of I'm not mistaken.

Your memory is correct. However I found out later valve float was a contributing factor. Insufficient spring pressure.
