Blew the 400 up

Alrighty finally got the 400 out. I'm ready to drop the crate motor in now be back in about a few hours.

Pulled the head off the 400 and this is what I found. Raised dish pistons? And there's that nick in the piston too looks like detonation. oh well nothing a good rebuild can't fix. But that's for another thread.

If that is a 400, where are the steam holes??

The gap between the cylinders also looks like a 350. A 400 is much thinner between the bores.

That also appears to be a run of the mill 350 piston. 400 piston has alot more dish to it.

Another tip-off to me that it is likely not a 400. I never have seen one with a RH dipstick.

A 400 without steam holes, huh? Maybe outta measure bore and stroke?

400 small block blocks have 3 freeze plugs on each side of the block. The smaller displacement blocks do not have this (only 2 per side).
