Are the swirl port heads good if I only want low end torque and never care to bring my redline above 4500? Or would some aluminum summit heads or something still make better numbers down low?
The Summit heads with 170 cc runners still give you good low end torque and up to over 5000 RPM with their valve springs on a flat tappet cam. If you want a roller cam, you need to change the springs, according to them. When mine was stock with the 193 heads, it wouldn't do much more over 4000 RPM.

Mine made peak power at about 4,800 rpm with the swirl ports. Just a little 203/210 @ 0.050 LT4 cam and 1.6 rockers.
