The LS2 has more displacement, more torque, and around 1500 extra useable rpms, it can't lose. Not to mention it's all aluminum and weighs ~100 lbs less.

The L31 makes it's peak torque lower, some people love that. I don't believe in the torque monster myth.
Edited to an LQ4. Both truck and iron block engines.

The sky is the limit. The world is your oyster. I would suggest further research. Listening to what the other members would write down.Personal experience with an LS swap it went all very well for me. The small block I like it.. To be honest I also like the oddball suggestions thrown out here. Like as I said back in the day the small block was like the LS.

You might be limited by your local emissions laws, pocketbook and or skillset. Again as I said the world may be your oyster.

Our work van is a 2016 ish Isuzu with the 6.0/6 speed auto (GM). It has 65,000 miles on it. Only myself and one other person have ever driven this van, and we treat it decent. It failed me for the 3rd time yesterday. That truck is a complete POS.

After I punch out, I am happy to get into my l31 powered truck, or my 4.3 powered s10.

You can believe or not believe makes no difference to me. I had my Express on the dyno when it had a stock L31 block that had a 395' cam in it, with a tune, custom 4" air intake and shorties. I also had a 4L85E and GM 14 bolt 9.5". Not 5 minutes later a Vortec Max 6.0L went on it. The 6.0L had an intake, full exhaust including headers and a tune. The old 350 put down 310 tq at 3,100 and 257 hp at 4,900. The 6.0L put down 291 hp @ 5,400 and 299 tq at 4,400. Down at 3,000 rpm the LQ9 6.0L was nearly 50 ft/lbs off the L31. The L31 made more torque than the LQ9 over 1,000 rpm sooner, despite being less cubes and having to spin an 85E rather than a 65E. L31 was also spinning a very large duramax clutch fan and the LQ9 had factory electric fans.
