I'm replacing the compressor but I'm not sure how much oil to add. The new one says it comes with 3 ounces in it already. This is for a 97 k1500 ext.cab.

From what I've read the last couple days researching my own AC stuff, 8 seems to be the magic number.

Maybe this will help. 8 oz. is a total system volume for those without rear air.

Drain your old compressor and add add the amount back in per instructions above
(Drain new one also)
Don’t forget to replace the accumulator and add oil into it

Do NOT refill with any sealer type of R134a
