I didn't know GM was using stepper motors to run the gauges in '91. They certainly were not using steppers in '88 when I had gauge problems. Turns out my instrument cluster electronics package was defective--replacing the gauges didn't fix the problem. Had to replace the cluster, and then I could re-use the gauges.

When the gauges went nuts in my '03 Trailblazer, I bought "new, improved" stepper motors from an eBay supplier. If one stepper is bad, the rest won't be far behind. Replace 'em all. The eBay replacements I bought have worked fine for years.
